Bandwidth Capacity Between America & Britain Increases Thanks To CenturyLink

Posted on July 21, 2016 by Benson Palmer

The news that U.S.-based telecommunications company CenturyLink has merged its services with Irish-based Computer Networks Solutions Provider AquaComms Ltd. was met with a wide degree of appreciation, while it was being announced to the media on 20th of July 2016. The joint announcement heralded a new age of cooperation between the two transatlantic companies as they join hands in a remarkable venture to expand the Broadband capacity between The United States Of America and The United Kingdom.

Most Americans have already heard of and experienced the services rendered by CenturyLink, the American-owned telecommunications company headquartered in Monroe, Louisiana. Glen F. Post has been at the helm of CenturyLink as its Chief Executive Officer since 1992, and has been witness to the astounding changes technology has brought to the world since then. CenturyLink prides itself on the ability to provide high-speed internet to people living across The United States.

It achieved yet another milestone when it was successful in activating two 100 GB links between the transatlantic cities of London and New York. The help and resources needed to undertake this huge venture was provided by a company that does its operations across the wide Atlantic Ocean-AquaComms Limited.

This Irish-based company specializing in sub-sea telecommunications has been providing a variety of networking solutions to IT companies, both locally and globally. Their core area of service is building subsea fiber optics. As such they are the proud owners of CeltixConnect (the most advanced sub-sea telecommunications network in Europe) and also AEConnect (one of the first under-sea transatlantic cables to be built).

Both these companies joined hands to provide users on both side of the Atlantic, faster and more reliable internet access. This is due to the fact that the London-to-NY internet pathway is the 2nd largest Internet traffic route in the whole wide world.

Norwegian Fishing Association Stands In The Way Of Norway’s FM Shutdown!

Posted on May 14, 2016 by Benson Palmer

Last year Norway created ripples in the international community when it declared, what may be termed as the death knell of FM radio. In an official statement issued early last year, Norway announced that it was ending the FM radio service in the country. It will become the first country to do so, when FM radio stations broadcast their last radio programs next year on January 2017.

For millions of people around the world, the radio has always been a major source of information as well as entertainment. The latest news as well as the latest hit songs have always made their mark on radio channels, before they are broadcast through any other medium. Many from the older generation will remember the thrill of anticipation that came with tuning the various knobs present on the radio, in an effort to find popular FM stations. The characteristic hums and hisses that came with tuning into different FM stations can still be recalled by them.

Thus, it was with a twinge of sadness that many people, especially the citizens of Norway, realized that it was time to bid adieu to one of the oldest forms of electronic entertainment. Many countries are expected to follow Norway’s example and down the shutters of their own FM radio stations. The cause for this has been attributed to the decrease in traditional radio listeners as most of the younger generation have migrated to newer versions of radio-entertainments, like the digital radio programs being offered by Internet Radio Stations.

Many in Norway have opposed the shutdown, including the Center party and the Progressive party. Unexpectedly, the move has now being vehemently opposed by Norges Fiskarlag, The Norwegian Fishing Association. They allege that replacement measures to provide equivalent services to the off-shore seamen have not been put forth by the government.

Digital Radio: United Kingdom Witnesses Dramatic Increase In Listeners

Posted on February 5, 2016 by Benson Palmer

For thousands of radio listeners in the United Kingdom the news was shocking, and yet it was quite expected. The latest reports coming in from Radio Joint Audience Research (RAJAR) have confirmed what many people in the radio industry only suspected. RAJAR has confirmed that there has been a shift in radio listening preferences, with more people tuning in to access Digital Radio Stations, rather than the conventional FM & AM stations.

As all radio aficionados will recall RAJAR is an official organization that is jointly owned by the British broadcasting corporation (BBC) and Radiocentre, the official industry body of The United Kingdom’s commercial radio. RAJAR is the national radio ratings analyst and has been entrusted with the important task of measuring radio audiences in the UK.

According to the analysis conducted last year, RAJAR reports an astounding Ten Percent increase in the number of Digital Radio listeners in the United Kingdom. According to the official press-release, the figure pertaining to the total number of Internet Radio listeners now stands at a whopping 41.7%, showing a definite increase from 37% recorded last year. According to RAJAR, 56% of UK’s adult population is tuning in to digital versions of radio. The popularity of internet-enabled mobile phones has been credited with this increase in listeners. Approximately 26% of mobile users confirmed listening to digital radio programs, and enabling more and younger listeners to tune in daily.

But, during the same period, traditional AM and FM stations have shown a definite plummet in their listenership. Almost 10% of listeners have moved away from FM and AM, and the total percentage of listeners now stands at 50%. Many listeners have moved away from FM and AM radio stations stating a lack of quality-based radio programs as well as the difficulty in accessing radio-stations.
